Celebrate Halloween with a morning of fun and fitness on Sunday, October 29th, at Exeter Hospital’s fifth annual United in Wellness Cancer Walk and Trick or Treat Trot 5K and Creepy Crawler Fun Run. Participants are encouraged to walk or run in honor or in memory of our neighbors and loved ones affected by cancer, while also supporting those that may be facing their greatest challenge: a cancer diagnosis. Proceeds from this family-friendly Halloween themed 5K Walk/Run support critical cancer treatment programs and services at Exeter Hospital’s Center for Cancer Care.
Team registration is available again this year, further encouraging friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors to join together to support our neighbors in need. Local businesses are invited to create a corporate team. Individual and team fundraising is strongly encouraged with prizes awarded to the top individual and team fundraisers.
Participants are encouraged to register by September 30 to take advantage of early-bird registration rates. Cancer Walk/Trot 5K participants registered by September 30 will also receive a complimentary race t-shirt. The cost for the Walk/Run for ages 19 and over is $25 through 9/30/17, $30 through 10/27/17, and $35 on event day. Student rates for ages 18 and under for the Walk/Run is $15 through 10/27/17 and $20 on event day. The cost for the Fun Run is $5 through 9/30/17, $8 through 10/27/17 and $10 on event day. Online registration is available through October 25 at runreg.com, or entrants can visit unitedinwellness.org/trickortreattrot to download a registration form or learn about early bib pick-up and event-day registration.
The flat, fast 5K course is geared to individuals of all skill levels. Children ages 10 and under may also participate in the Creepy Crawler Fun Run, a short distance, non-competitive run. This year’s Creepy Crawler Fun Run is being presented by the Richie McFarland Children’s Center. Fun Run participants will receive Halloween bags and all attendees are invited to enjoy post-race complimentary snacks, face painting and the opportunity to meet physicians from Core Physicians and Exeter Hospital. Awards donated by local businesses will be given to both male and female Trot division winners, best costume winners in both races, and the top individual and team fundraisers.
This year’s Platinum level sponsors include Eastern Bank, Medtronic and Open Arms Racing Heart Foundation. “Focusing on health and wellness are important to Eastern Bank,” said Jamie Thompson, senior vice president at Eastern Bank. “We are proud to sponsor this event again this year and partner with Exeter Hospital in supporting the needs for our community. We are honored to be part of what has become a Halloween tradition for so many while also bringing our community together to help raise money to further strengthen and support programs and services for those facing a cancer diagnosis.”
The Trot 5K is the ninth race in Exeter Hospital’s ten-race United in Wellness Road Race Series, sponsored by Seacoast United Sports Club. The series supports organizations whose missions positively impact the health and wellness of the Seacoast community.
