The community is invited to participate in Exeter Hospital’s Kites Against Cancer Month activities to honor or remember loved ones affected by cancer, as well as to support The Beyond the Rainbow Fund, which benefits local cancer patients in need.
On Saturday, May 4, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm, Exeter High School’s Interact Club will hold a car wash to benefit The Beyond the Rainbow Fund at the Exeter Sunoco, 66 Portsmouth Avenue in Exeter. A free kite is included with each car wash.
Sunday, May 5, 4:00 – 7:00 pm at Tuscan Kitchen in Portsmouth is the third annual Caring Hands event, to celebrate the impact of donors and community partners. A Tuscan feast along with beverages will be served and a silent auction will be held. Proceeds from the $100 ticket will benefit The Beyond the Rainbow Fund.
Sunday, May 19, starting at noon is Kites on the Beach. The community is invited to come fly a kite at Hampton Beach, near the Oceanfront Pavilion, in honor or memory of loved ones and friends affected by cancer.
The signature event this year is the Cancer Survivors Block Party on Tuesday, June 4 (rain date of June 5), 4:30 – 7:00 pm at Exeter Hospital. Cancer survivors and their families and friends, along with community members, are invited to a cookout as well as live music by Velvis Underground, raffles, face painting, a photo booth and more. The Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center, whose leading radiation and medical oncologists provide care for patients at Exeter Hospital’s Center for Cancer Care, will be attending the event with their Everyday Amazing Mobile. Attendees are encouraged to stop by and share what “everyday amazing” means to them, as well as share the name of someone in their lives whom they consider to be amazing.
“Kites Against Cancer Month, particularly our Block Party, is designed to give our community a way to come together to honor and remember their family and friends who are affected by cancer,” said Eileen McDonald, director of The Center for Cancer Care. “Additionally, community members can support patients right here in the Seacoast through The Beyond the Rainbow Fund. Patients receive help with expenses such as groceries, utilities, gas, and rent/mortgage payments, as well as any other practical needs that may
become unmanageable during their treatment.”
Sponsors of Kites Against Cancer Month include Bank of New Hampshire, Everyday Details Professional Event Planning, New Day Solutions, Transformative Healthcare and Sodexo.
